Three capacities, not one headline

Accommodation also needs a practical conversation. Couples, children and guests needing separate beds may require a particular cabin configuration. For a reception, circulation, shade and where people can sit or eat may be more important than a large master suite.

The harbour is part of the brief

A large yacht does not automatically come with a Monaco berth. Request the proposed embarkation arrangement, any tender transfer and the access plan for the party. If the yacht is delivered from another base, have the cost and timing separated clearly from the guest charter.

A Grand Prix reception adds another set of questions about the berth, viewing position, guest access and services. Specify those requirements early. A yacht capable of a cruising charter is not automatically an available hospitality venue for the event.

An intelligible charter budget

Where a proposal separates a charter fee and operating expenses, ask how each part works. Fuel, provisioning, berths, delivery, taxes and an advance allowance may be relevant, but their treatment must come from the actual offer. Request the authorisation and reconciliation process rather than assuming a standard percentage.
